Ship Breaker

This week I read ship breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi it was pretty good It is in America’s Gulf Coast region, where grounded oil tankers are being broken down for parts, Nailer, a teenage boy, works the light crew, scavenging for copper wiring just to make quota — and hopefully live to see another day. But when, he discovers an exquisite clipper ship beached during a recent hurricane, Nailer faces the most important decision of his life: Strip the ship for all it’s worth or rescue its lone survivor, a beautiful and wealthy girl who could lead him to a better life…. I recommend this for everyone

the island of the blue dolphins

This week I read The Island of Blue Dolphins again. It's a story about an Indian girl  named Karana who is on an island that is shaped like a fish sunning itself around it there are lots of creatures like blue dolphins( of course) and otters and other animals. Her tribe sails to the east but they leave her there. For many years she waits for a ship to come and get her It's the story of how she grows up, making shelter, making weapons, finding food and fighting wild dogs. I found this book kind of boring acctually and it is kind of similar to Hatchet. I've never heard of this book untuil now and I wouldn't give a high recommendation but if you have nothing to do, be my guest.

Book Blaug

Over spring break I read Eragon, I have read this book before and I loved it, the movie is much worse however. It is about a boy named Eragon, who finds a dragon egg, while hunting one day. Once the dragon is born, Eragon meets a mentor Brom who helps him become a dragon rider who eventually hopes to defeat the evil king of Alagaesia, King Galbatorix.

If your haven't read this, this book might sound cheesy. But if your have read this book you can back me up that this book is really good and it was written by a 15 year old.

Alex Rider

This week I read the first book in the Alex Rider series again. The first time I read it I thought it was really good, but I was like eight years old so I decided to read it again. These books are about Alex Rider who is a teenager that kind of fell into working with M16 after his uncle died. Each book is a different mission that he goes on.
After reading the first book for the second time I thought it was still really cool. The first book is about him joining the M16 and then going on his first mission. I thought the first half about his being recruited was better then the actual mission. His thought process about joining and why he might want to join or why he might not want to was really cool.

I would definatly recommend this book to anyone.

SOLSC 10

This week I read The Comets Curse. This book was presented to me when I won third place in the Rocky Mountain Story Makers contest by Dom Testa. I read this previously in the year but it was given to me by the author so I thought I'll read it again.

This book is kind of like the Maze Runner in the sense that there is a virus that only teenagers are immune. Desperate to save humanity they are placed on a ship to find a new home. They figure out there is a saboteur on the ship and they have to find their home and deal with the saboteur before the mission fails which would mean the end of the human race.

This book is Ok. It's not the best but I still like it and recommend it.

Keys to the Kingdom book 3

Keys to the Kingdom book three is called Drowned Wednesday. If you haven't read my other book blogs about this series it takes place throughout a week. Mister Monday, Grim Tuesday, and now Drowned Wednesday. Arthur the main  character was pulled into this in the first book, he basically has to defeat all of the days (the days are people).

Arthur wakes up in a hospital bed with a broken leg from an unexpected asthma while waiting for this day to start, when he gets invited to lunch with Lady Wednesday. This is a really good book, I love this series. Its written well and its very intriguing and fun. I definitely recommend it.

The Toothpaste Millionaire

This week I read The Toothpaste Millionaire by Jean Merrill this book is about a sixth grader named Rufus Mayflower who thinks that toothpaste costs too much. He bets he can make a gallon of his own toothpaste for the same amount of money that one tube that he can buy. Rufus gets in to making a business with his good friend Kate MacKinstrey. He expands his business getting aluminum tubes, making commercials and more things.

This book is really good, I don't think it is very well written but it's a good story.

I choose books honestly by their cover. People say to not judge a book by its cover, but I do. If a book looks bad, I will read it. It's kind of simple actually, I pick books that look like they have bad covers. Because sometimes there are books that are really good but people never recommend them. I try to find those books, and then recommend them to people.

Navy Seal Dogs

This week I read Navy Seal Dogs, this was a pretty good book. It is about Ritland and the story of how he grew up, found his passion, and became the trainer of the nations most elite MWD or Military Working Dogs. He was picked on in school, which made dogs some of his best friends and then after graduating BUD/S, the hardest military training in the world to become a SEAL, he was in combat and saw a MWD in action, he then knew that's what he wanted to do for the rest of his military life.

This book is a unique way of looking on the inside of this type of life and training, it was an OK book but I would recommend it.

Heir Apparent

Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde               This week I read Heir Apparent, this book is about a girl named Gennine Belesario. She goes into and arcade in the future where all games are virtual reality games. You, see, feel, touch, and smell everything in the game. She goes into a game called Heir Apparent, in this game she starts out as a peasant, and she finds out she is the heir of the king, the king has died and basically everyone hates her, so she has to get on someones good side and take the throne. However in real life parents are outside protesting because they think the games are bad for their children, but while she is in the game, they break in and start smashing the games not knowing she is in one. Gennine has about 5 hours to win the game until her brain gets fried. Winning the game will let her out, losing will kill her.

This book is really good and engaging, I defiantly recommend thism book form everyone. I enjoyed it a lot.

The Comets Curse

The Comets Curse is the first book of a 6 book series. I got this book from a guy named Dom Testa (the author of the book) at the PBS story makers contest. He was one of the key speakers and he gave everyone a book.

Anyway. the book is about people saving the world (of course), and they are teenagers (of course). But the main character is a girl (wait what!). Earth has been infected by a virus that kills adults over 18.  Triana is the leader of a crew who had two years of training that prepared them to build a ship that will take 259 teenagers to Galahand and save humanity!

This is a good book and the author is a really nice guy. I don't like it enough to read the rest of the series but its pretty good.

Grim Tuesday

This week I read Grim Tuesday by Garth Knix. It is the second book in the Keys to the Kingdom series. This book was really good. I recommend it for everyone. These books are really confusing. I'll give some backround about the first book, Mister Monday.

It takes place in a place called the House. Mister Monday is the main antagonist whom Arthur (the main character) must face off with. So, with Mister Mondays defeat Arthur thought he had escaped the House but he is woken by a call. Grim Tuesday has taken control of the Lower House that Arthur had just taken from Mister Monday. Arthur has to go back into the house and figure out a way to take Grim's key back.

These books are a 7 book series. The days get harder to beat as the series goes on (so far) so i think Sunday is going to be like crazy. (The House is the Universe)

The Maze runner

Over break I read the Maze Runner again. I have read it before but I watched the movie and decided to read the book again to see if the movie lived up to the book.
It starts out with a kid who wakes up in an elevator with no memory of his past other than he knows his name is Thomas. He comes out of the elevator only to be greeted by more teenage kids who have no memory of their past as well (other than their names). They get him out of the elevator and he sees they are in a giant glade. Thomas begins to discover the Glade and he realizes that it is surrounded by an even bigger maze, a terrifying labyrinth with giant walls and deadly creatures they call Grievers a . They boys are stuck wit "solving" the maze to figure a way out.

This book is really good, I loved it both times I read it. I recommend it for everyone.
